RD/z Configuration
At this stage it is assumed that the RD/z product has been installed as described in the document: RD/z Desktop Installation. If the product has not been installed yet - first follow the instruction on that page before returning to these instructions.
Start the product by selecting: "IBM Software delivery platform" -> "IBM Rational Developer for System z" -> "IBM Rational Developer for System z".
The RD/z user will notice a splash screen at startup.
Select the place to store the workspace for RD/z. This is where the projects that the developer will create - will be stored.
The following welcome screen will greet the first time user of RD/z
- Close the Welcome page by clicking the X on the Welcome Tab.
- The developer will now be presented by the following screen.
- This is the normal RD/z Developer's screen or perspective.
Creating a New Connection
In the top right hand corner - right click the z/OS option under "New Connection" and left click the "New Connection" option that appears.
The user is presented with the following properties screen. Provide the values as shown in the image and click Next.
Provide the connection properties values as shown below and click Next. Note that the connection properties shown here will differ in your site. Refer to product documentation and your systems programmer for more details.
Provide the JES properties values as shown below and click Next.
The new connection should now present itself as shown below.
Setting up login credentials
Right click the new connection and select properties.
Click the small arrow to the left of the Default User ID and enter your RACF id.
Expand the connection up the the "My Data Sets" option. Expand this option as well.
- You will be presented by a small panel and challenged to provide a password.
- Provide your RACF password and select the "Save password option"
The warning about the non-SSL nature of the connection might show up.
The following message might be displayed. Select the option not to have it displayed again and click OK
Testing the connection
If the login credentials are correct the user will be presented with his list of mainframe datasets as shown here.
Collapse the MVS Files tree and expand the JES tree. Also expand the My Jobs option and ensure that you can see any jobs belonging to your RACF id that is currently in the JES queue system.
If both the JES and the MVS file test completes successfully - the installation of the product has been successful.
